Energy Law

Energy law standardizes the Swiss energy industry, whose task is to ensure a secure, economic, diversified, and sufficient supply of energy. Energy law focuses on the economic, environmentally compatible, rational and economical provision of energy. In this context, renewable and domestic energy sources are always to be preferred.

Due to the focus on renewable energy, the energy sector is more heavily regulated than any other economic sector. The regulations are designed to ensure security of supply for the population as well as the industry itself, while protecting the climate and the environment.

In particular, the totally revised Energy and Electricity Supply Act of 2018 regulates energy production, supply to customers and grid infrastructure. Different regulations apply depending on the energy source. Among other things, there are close connections between aspects of corporate and commercial law as well as public law.

The energy sector is an essential driving factor of the global economy and also influences geopolitics. Therefore, when dealing with the regulations of energy law, expert lawyers are required who, on the one hand, have sector-specific expertise and, on the other hand, assess economic aspects and incorporate them into their advice.
